About

I am a Singaporean male in my mid-30s, and this blog chronicles my investing ideas and activities. I hope to search for and find contrarian and deep value investing ideas and will chronicle all these ideas here, both the successes and the failures. (hopefully less of the latter)

As the focus is on deep value situations, I’m mentally prepared for my portfolio to show great volatility. In some years, I should outperform the indices spectacularly. In others, I should underperform spectacularly as well. Over a multi year period, I hope to achieve above normal returns

The objective of TTI is:

  1. To act as a platform for investing ideas to be discussed and challenged
  2. To share what I may have learnt on my personal investing journey; both successes and failures
  3. To document my investing results

202) Questions

Here are some common questions that I get:

Q: Are you a full time investor? Or are you working in the finance sector?

A: Neither. Though, I do spend a considerable amount of time outside of work looking for deep value investing opportunities. I work in the healthcare sector.

Q:  Do you have finance/accounting related qualifications? How do you start learning about investing?

A: Nope. I don’t think related qualifications are required to be a good investor, although, having knowledge of accounting is a must. It’s the language of value investing. A rudimentary, working knowledge in accounting is enough in most instances. Being an accounting genius may be required, in the rarest of situations. Everything I know has been self taught, mostly by reading. My book list is a great place to start reading.

Q: What do you think of company XXX?

A: Nothing. If it’s not a company that I’ve done DD on, chances are, you’d know more about it than I do. I do have above average insights on the construction, manufacturing, steel and healthcare industries, particularly those based in Singapore, so if it’s related, I’ll be happy to give a somewhat qualified opinion.

  1. Hi TTTI,
I like what you wrote on King Wan. Very thorough analysis.
On a sidenote, how do you enter put options on S&P? My local broker does not have this instrument available.

    Thanks

    1. Hi, Local brokerages do not offer option contracts.
You can buy/sell options via an international brokerage. Personally, I currently use Interactive Brokers. Just simply go to any of these international brokerages and set up an account via their website. There’s a bit of a learning curve but once you get that sorted out, it’s fairly smooth sailing

  2. You inspired me to do the same like you. I really like the way you analyse the counters and I’m truly amazed by the amount you vested on those counters on your portfolio!

I’m new into investment and value investing. now reading books myself instead of attending courses that costs thousands of dollars (of course I can’t afford too).

I’m currently reading Intelligent Investor and Warren Buffet Way.

haha you’re absolutely right. Most of my colleagues are big on property.
They own equities too alright, but I wouldn’t exactly call it investing.
